New Beginnings

I’m sure many of our friends and neighbors in Fruitport, MI have been wondering what’s been going on at the Clock location on Pontaluna Road.

For the past several months our location has been closed and there have been dumpsters and construction vehicles in our parking lot. Why? Like many other homeowners and business, our facility was impacted by the brutal winter. Our pipes froze, and then when the building heated up, burst, only to have water run though out the facility over a weekend. You can imagine our surprise on Monday morning when the snow plow came to clear the parking lot and let us know that water was running of all our entrances. Get the picture? Trust me – it wasn’t pretty.

Just like anything else, something good always can come out of a bad situation. After numerous conversations, drives through-out the community, and listening to families we made a conscience decision to transform what was once a funeral home, into an event center. What does that mean? It means that the entire building was taken down to the studs, reframed and repurposed.

Where there was once a “prep” room for funeral directors to conduct their trade, there are now large bathrooms. Where there was once an office and flower room, there is a spacious kitchen and staging area for caterers to bring in meals and create a buffet area or serve plated meals. This area can easily be converted to a dance floor for small to mid-size weddings, class reunions, or parties. There is also a coffee / beverage area and separate location for desserts, cake or cookies. When you walk into the building you will see walls that can be transformed into any theme, along with many big screen televisions, not to mention a wonderful sound system.

By re-designing this building, we can still serve families at their time of loss and who have pre-arranged a loved one’s celebration of life. In fact – we can be more affordable. What’s even more exciting is that will have expert event planners who can provide cost effective options for rehearsal dinners, weddings, receptions, family reunions, corporate retreats, showers – the options are endless.

People do not have to feel obligated to use our caterers or event planners; they can feel free to use their own and simply use our facility or even rent our limousine and driver. So the next time you drive by what was Clock Funeral Home on Pontaluna Road, in the Village of Fruitport, you will see “Sunset Celebrations – for all of life’s events”. Please look for our grand opening, follow us on Facebook or check out our website at www.sunsetcelebrationcenter.com (coming soon). We only hope you are as excited about this as we are!
